Christians Birthday Present

We got Christian the coolest birthday gift ever! For his birthday he got a train set but we didnt have a table to keep it on and it would have been hard to have it set up on the floor. Well....we got him a train table AND the person we got it from also gave us a complete train set that comes with a Mountain and a Train house and a bazillion trains. Its the same style of train tracks as the one he got for his birthday. The lady also gave us a one of those car mats that he can play with his cars on! Its a lot bigger and nicer then the one we have for him. The best part about this present it that it cost us NOTHING!!!!!! Cant beat that!

Throwing the towel in...

Were done with the cup. While Jackson was doing really well with the cup we decided to stop for now and try again later. Like i said, he was doing great but he wasnt drinking as much as he was or should have been. He was drinking maybe 10 oz od fluids a day and we decided to stop before he became dehydrated. So the cups on the back burner for now.

Also, tonight was a special meeting for the Wernersville borough to decide to merge police forces with neighboring Robesonia. They had the meeting "advertised" in the reading Eagle and on WFMZ 69 News. Tonight the local tv station was there and I was the only other person there to hear the the verdict. When I got there the mayor and I talked a little, about the Kids Event earlier in the month. I also got to talk to Debbie from the Rec board...It was a short meeting with little objections. They motioned to merge with Robesonia.

You can call us crazy or cruel but it is what it is

Tried to post this last night but we lost power so....

Just one day shy of his 7 month birthday, Jackson is done breastfeeding. Sad isn’t it? I will say that it wasn’t by choice either. Alicia is very upset and has been crying a lot today because of it. She noticed yesterday that he was satisfied enough with each feeding. This morning when she woke up her boobs were “flat”, they were empty. She didn’t attempt to feed Jackson because there was nothing to feed him with. We gave him breakfast of mangos and apples and while he eating we talked about what to do. By the time he had his last bite we made our decision. We were going to start him on a sippy cup.

With Christian we had it done in a weekend. We bought a sippy cup a few weeks ago to try to give him a little bit of juice. When we first got the cup we tried it once or twice and put it back in the cabinets until a later date. That date came sooner then expected. We got the cup out, put the formula in it and tried it again. As expected he didn’t want it. He kicked and flailed and screamed until he was blue in the face…once we got him calmed down we tried again and he didn’t want it.
The cup we bought was a beginner cup for 6 months. We noticed that he would always watch Christian when he drank from his cup. Christian has a basic cup. It a toss away kind of cup that you can use for couple of times and then throw it away when your done with it. The cup we bought for Jackson has a regulator valve and Christians doesn’t. I decided that I would try that cup to see if it made a difference. It worked. We tried the cup with his second feed and he took right to it. Didn’t fuss too much. After a couple of minutes he got frustrated with it but that’s okay. We stopped trying for now.

By the end of the day he was fine. He didn’t cry and actually opened his mouth and tried to pull the cup closer for more! Alicia doesn’t remember how hard it was with Christian but I did. I remember that we did a lot of positive reinforcement with him, telling him he was “Such a good boy” and “We are so proud of you!” oh and smiling a lot whenever he was looking so he would know its okay. Is not easy and Alicia had a rough time because he’s obviously upset by such a big change. She’s like a drug addict…she’s going threw withdraw.
------------------------------------New Today------------------------------------

Despite the change he still slept through the night and this morning when he woke up to eat we gave him the cup. You should have seen his face when he saw his cup! He was sitting on our bed and started to hop up and down with the biggest smile on his face! He took the cup with no problems and drank a little over 3oz in one sitting! Obviously it’s a little messy when he drinks but who wouldn’t be? He’s been breastfed for the last 7 months and never had a bottle…

We decided that we didn’t want to have to get him use to a bottle for another couple of months then try to switch to a sippy cup later. Wow, 7 months old and he’s already on a sippy cup…its crazy!

Our weekend

Barb, Matt and Emma came down on Saturday afternoon for dinner and then to Koziar’s Christmas Village . We told Christian that Emma was coming down and that’s all he could talk about until she came. And when she came he was so excited. “Emma come here”, “Emma come upstairs”, “EMMA”. It was great that she played with him too. He doesn’t have a lot of friends that are girls, especially one that’s somewhat close to his age (3 years is close, right?)

I was going to make dinner but instead bought some Chicken & Penne stir fry thing instead. Less mess that way…and more time to spend with them. Alicia and I showed them around our house and got to talk a little bit before and during dinner. I started to show her our photo albums but that’s something to look at if you have a few hours! We exchange Christmas presents too, well, the kids did at least. After dinner we made the trek to the Christmas Village . It took us about 10 minutes to get to the road it’s on but it took us another 30 minutes to get down that road. Usually it’s a 5 minute drive down that road…once we got there we had to park so far away you almost couldn’t see the Christmas Village!

Christian must have been getting tired because all he wanted was to be held. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) Barb carried him a little bit. We didn’t get to see Santa because the line was ridiculously long like usual. Emma seemed to have a good time and Christian really took to Barb which was nice. I held Jackson again and again he fell asleep in my arms! We stayed for a little over an hour and left to go home. On our way home we went into Bernville to get gas and the traffic was backed up in every direction. We took 183 and then cut into Robesonia and traffic was backed up for at least 5 miles. Traffic was still backed up even after we turned off 183. Keep in mind it was 8:15 and traffic was at a stand still.

On Sunday we just stayed home and did absolutely nothing. We didn’t even leave the house or open the door. Alicia’s mom came down to visit and see the boys…she said she was going through kiddie withdraw or something! We lost power for a couple of hours too…good thing we were home!

Got our Christmas tree

Alicia has really been wanting to get one…on Monday is when she gets her papers and usually she delivers them on Tuesday night (and sometimes Wednesday morning) because of all the inserts but she stuffed, bagged and had them delivered by Tuesday morning! Down the street from our house is a Christmas tree farm that we decided to go to instead of the one in the parking lot of Target shopping center.

It was a huge field of trees in sections by the type of tree it was….We spent a good 45 minutes walking around trying to find the right one. Alicia wanted a tall one, I didn’t want a real wide one…Christian wanted all of them and Jackson was just mesmerized by the strings on my shirt! I think the one we settled on was a Douglas Fir, its has really short needles and they’re soft to the touch (great for Christian, Jackson and KC). We made sure that there weren’t dead needles hiding or some nest of birds because that could create some problems. When we decided on the tree, we waived down the person driving the ATV and he used the chainsaw to cut it down. I’m sure you can imagine how excited Christian was but Jackson wasn’t too excited about it.

Once we got the tree in the house and set up, we let it settle so that we can eat dinner. Before we started decorating the tree we put Jackson down, he was very tired and it was a little passed his bedtime. I helped put the lights on the tree and a few decorations. Alicia asked Christian if he wanted to help put any ornaments up and he said “No, I watch Mommy, I watch” He sat on the couch and watched as we put the ornaments on the tree.

However, once I got the train and tracks out he changed his mind! He was more then eager to help me set the train up. We told him that before he could play with it he had to ask mommy or daddy because it wasn’t a toy for him to play with. So….this morning Alicia and I are half awake, the alarm hasn’t gone off yet but we can hear Christian somewhere and Jackson ’s rocking in his crib. Do you see where this is going? Next thing we hear is this loud ringing sound. We both look at each other trying to figure it out. We get out of bed and followed the sound…it took us downstairs and there was Christian, in front of the Christmas tree, with the biggest smile on his face and the train remote in his hand…”Look what I did!”

WOW

It’s been a while since we had such a busy weekend. Sadly though, this is just the start of busy weekends. With the holidays fast approaching our schedule is filling up fast. On Friday night was the start of the holiday season for us, we went to Koziars Christmas Village . My moms, sisters and Cal all came along too. A long time ago my parents took us to the Christmas Village and according to my mom, not much has changed! I got done work around 5:30 and was working down the street from the place so I was just going to meet everyone there. We decided to meet there at 5:30 to try and try to get there before the massive herds of people showed up. It worked. We got there and there was a small line that moved quickly.

Last year when we went it was just unbearable, the line hardly moved, the walk ways were like parking lots…This year we went straight to Santa because last year there was a very long line that didn’t move. We were the first people to see Santa and the boys did really well. Christian surprisingly was scared of him. He wouldn’t go near him at first but as soon as Santa offered him a piece of candy he was fine. Jackson at first had a worried look on his face then he eased up long enough to take a picture. As we said our goodbyes to Santa we noticed the line was already out the door…crisis adverted.

We stayed at the Christmas Village for almost an hour and a half. Jackson did very well for staying up past his bedtime. Towards the end as I was holding him he laid his head on my shoulder and started to talk himself to sleep…My mom took Christian overnight so that we could get ready for Christians party on Saturday.

Christian party went very well. Christian had a great time and a lot of people showed up to see and support Christian on his special day. The firehouse tour went well too. Kids and adults liked it. Click the link below for pictures, there were too many to put on here!

Welcome to Reading

Hows this!

It was my first day at the Reading branch and I've never really been downtown before, especially in "rush" hour. I drove around for 10 minutes trying to find my way to the parking garage, there are so many one way streets. I finally found the street I had to turn onto but it was cluttered with police cars and a van that read Coroner. As I finally made my way through the pack of cars, they were carting a body out of the nearby building....Ahhh, what a great start to the morning!

Once the branch opened the customers came in droves. One customer kind of gave me a bad feeling. He seemed a little off. He was very uneasy and didnt know what he wanted. He asked if I had a piece of paper to write me a special note. Usually when someone says they have a note for you....its not good. The note he gave me had his name and the word ATM scribbled on it. Then he left.

The branch was very small and busy. The day wasnt too bad, at least time flew because it was steady. Tomorrow I go to Kutztown again!

Forgot something

Christian has been doing really awesome with Potty Training! He doesnt wet the pull up during nap, he's been dry for a couple of weeks now. Recently, he wakes up from sleeping all night, his pull up is dry! He wakes up and goes right to the potty. He takes his dry pull up off and puts it on his dresser. We've been using the same one for over a week!

Also, I uploaded 3, thats right, 3 new videos to our youtube acct. Either go to www.youtube.com/proudfather19 or go to the link on the right side of the blog, towards the bottom. Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Its been one of those days

Christian is such an awesome little boy. He’s going to be 3 in a month! Each day presents new joys and more challenges. Christian is at the “Why?” stage and while sometimes it entertaining, others it get frustrating because he’s not satisfied with the answer or answers you provide. It’s very trying and I have to remind myself that this is how he is learning about the world. This stage started about a week ago. We were sitting outside on the front porch and he saw a pumpkin and wanted to take it from the neighbors. We told him that it wasn’t his pumpkin and he asked us Where’s Christian’s pumpkin? Christian doesn’t have a pumpkin…WHY? Instantly, Alicia and I looked at each other. It’s starting….

Christians doing really well with counting, he can count all the way up 12! He knows all the major body parts and even most of his colors. His ABC’s are slowly coming along, Alicia is teaching him during the day his ABC’s. Christian is getting better with Jackson . Every now and again we’ll catch him playing nicely with him. Last night Jackson was sitting in front of his mirror playing and Christian came over and leaned in and put his arm around Jackson and played nicely with him. Sometimes Christian forgets that he can’t be rough with him just yet.

Christian is a very big help, but sometimes he can get in the way…If were making dinner he wants to be right there with you. He asks if he can sit on the counter and help you. Or if I’m vacuuming he’ll get his out and watch me and do everything I do. And when I’m done with it and put it in the closet he parks his right next to mine!

Jackson , where to start? The last 6 months has been a whirlwind of emotions. Jackson has changed so much in such a short amount of time. Last night after we put Christian down, we had Jackson in the playroom. He just sat in the middle of the floor with a bucket of wooden blocks and some other toys and just played. I can’t remember what it was like when we had just Christian. Jackson looked so happy just sitting there playing, you can tell in his eyes that he was trying to learn and figure everything out.

Jackson ’s already at the weight Christian was just shy of his first birthday. He’s doing things that Christian didn’t do at that age. I mean, granted Christian was a preemie but still. It really feels as though Jackson is growing up too fast. I know it sounds like a jaded clichĂ© but it’s true.

When I come home after work the boys and KC get so excited to see me. Christians usually at the door with the biggest smile, he opens the door for me and screams Daddy’s home! Last night Jackson was sitting on the floor playing and he got excited when I walked in, his little arms start to flail and his legs start kicking. I said Hi to him and walked passed to say hi to Alicia, I turn around to look at Jackson and he’s on his stomach trying to crawl over to me! Its things like that that let you know your doing something right in raising them.

Jackson ’s at the point know that he’ll let you know who he wants. If you’re holding him and he wants mommy, he reach out for her and wait for her to pick him up! He’s not a helpless baby anymore.

My new job is going really well. I’ve been in branch now for a week and I have no regrets. This week I’m in Kutztown helping out. I’ve never been to Kutztown, I’ve always driven by it….The pay for the job is really good. I get a base salary (which was less then I was making at my previous job) but also mileage reimbursement for traveling to other branches. The further branch I would go to is Kutztown and that’s only 30 minutes away from home! When you factor in the mileage reimbursement I’m getting paid the same I did at my previous job.

The holidays are fast approaching and we aren’t prepared at all! Were hosting Thanksgiving at our house, it’s our time in our new house. My mom and sisters are coming down and her mom (maybe her brother and his girlfriend) as well. Alicia and I are making the turkey, stuffing and yams. My mom is bringing mashed potatoes and a corn soufflĂ© dish. Her mom is bringing dessert, I’m not sure what though!

Before we know it Christians party will be here. We still have some things to get figured out. I have no idea how I’m going to make the cake yet, well, I have an idea so let’s hope it all works out! Were ordering a finger sandwich tray from a place in Perkaise (thanks Cathleen!), I don’t want to stress out too much for this party. Alicia wants to make chex mix but we’re not going to have a lot of food! We have someone from the fire dept giving a tour to the kids of the station, a fire truck and show them how things work. Its going to be a neat experience because Christian is really into fire trucks! There will be crafts and some games as well.

I think that’s everything that’s on my mind! I just needed to get it out. Before I go I just wanted to wish Jared a Happy Birthday. He would be 20 years old today…

All about Jackson

Jackson's got his second tooth in the other day. His new tooth is next to the other one. There coming in quickly now. This tooth took 2 days to come. One day there was nothing, then a day of crying and fussing, the next day there it was!

Also, he is able to get up on all fours and start rocking back and fourth. Then he'll lunge forward and thats as far as he has gotten! I cant believe how well he's doing. Before we know it, he'll be crawling. Does walking by 9 months sound too far fetched? Its still 3 months away...

Jackson and other things

Jackson hasnt really gained any weight since September. He weighs 16lbs and 10oz and is 26.5 linches long. He gain less then a pound and grew a little over 2 inches. The doctor isnt concerned about the lack of a weight gain, she told Alica that usually in breastfed babies around his age start to slow down for a while. Just to be sure Jackson goes back for a follow up in one month just to make sure.

Christian has an appt schedule to get the H1N1 vaccine and were in the process of scheduling Jacksons since he's old enough. I still want to do some more research to make sure that this is the best thing for the boys. I've heard a lot of arguments for and against the H1N1.

I finished my training today, FINALLY. We had our test today and I was the only one to get 100% on the written and the transactions. Tomorrow I can finally start working for real.

We won something!

While its not a million dollars...we won a gift basket from About Families (a magazine). Alicia entered for the drawing at the Redner Family Expo two weeks ago and she got a call today and we won the family basket! Here's a picture that they took and will be in next months magazine.

Sunday, so much for a lazy day

Wow, I was hoping for a lazy Sunday but NOOOOOO! Jackson's not feeling well so he's understandable but Christian...Jackson woke up at 2:30 (like he has been since being sick) and eat but decided he didnt want to go back to sleep. Shortly after Jackson woke up Christian did. Keep in mind its about 3am and Alicia and I are trying to get Jackson to sleep so we can go back to sleep. Christian comes out of his room and says "Hi Daddy" and I reply, "what do you want?" He thinks about it and excitedly response with "PANCAKES!".

So we all went down stairs and sat on the couch until 4:30.

We organized the basement today too. All the boys toys are downstairs and its a mess down there! Our neighbor Angie gave us a large coffe table so we used that to organize and store all their toys. We switched out some toys with some that Aunt Dee brought over and we put some away for "Christmas presents" too.

I finally got around to Alicia's flat tire. That really pissed me off. I got that hub cap off. The bolts were rusted and made taking them off really hard. I tried everything to loosen them but nothing worked. Alicia asked the neighbor at the end to help us and he had a really hard time too. He got 3 bolts off and the other two were stripped. After 20 minutes he was able to get them off. Alicia's spare tire has never been used either....

Tomorrow is Jackson's 6 month Check up. Any guesses on his height and weight? I'm hoping for a 20lbs baby. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow. To end the day today 422 in Wernersville was shut down as well has a few block radius around the Penn Werner Hotel. It was shut down for about 2 hours and there was no official word on what was going on. It must have been serious, there were news reporters there, and a ton of police cars. The word is there was a gunman inside the Penn Werner holding a woman hostage...nice...just a block away too.

Off to Tinas house to play the Wii, the boys are all in bed and now its time for Mommy and Daddy to have some fun!

Its Saturday...evening

Today was a good day despite the weather. My aunt, Dee, and cousin, Ryan came down today to drop off a few early Christmas presents and see the boys. She said she was going through Ryan's toys that he out grew and brought them down for us to look at. All the toys were in great shape, we decided to keep a few hidden to use as gifts from Santa! They stayed for a couple of hours and it was nice to catch up. Ryan was playing with Christian and kept him entertained. Ryan kept asking if Christian could sleep over..it was cute. Maybe one day but on such short notice and its Christian. He can be a handful but what 3 year old isnt! Thank you Aunt Dee and Ryan for coming down. And thank you for all the awesome toys it really means a lot to us.

A few hours after they left we had game night at our house, well it was only our neighbor Tina but...Earlier in the day I made a Chocolate Cheesecake for her. I promised her that I would make her one a LONG time ago and I finally did today. Tina stayed over for a couple of hours and we played uno spin, A to Z, and talked. Christian played with her, he really loves her and she's really good with him.

Its 9:30 as I type this and were winding down after an eventful day. Oh and how coould I forget...

JACKSON IS 6 MONTHS OLD!!!!!

I cant believe it! 6 months old already. Tomorrow we'll be spending the day at home. I have two more days of training and then I start in branch and I cant wait. I went to my branch on Friday afternoon and got my schedule for the rest of the month and December. I only work one Saturday in those two months and I'll be going to Kutztown the week after next and then between my branch and Bernville until the end of December. What a nice schedule. I know I wont be regreting the job change.

It wasnt what I thought

Talk about a headache! I forgot how boring New Hire Orientation was. When you strip it down its the same speech no matter what bank your working for, every bank has laws and regulation thats must be followed. Today wasnt anything great, its was a bunch of basic info. Tomorrow should be better, its more about teller transactions and how the systems work.

My first day at the new job is next Wednesday. I went to the branch and met the staff and talked to the asst. manager about my schedule. Here, I work next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at my branch then the following week I already float to Kutztown! Its not that bad. Its only a 30 minutes drive with little traffic and I'm suppose to be there all week so thats an extra $100 in my pocket!

last day

it was a slow last day. sucked actually. my shift got changed to the closing shift so there went any hopes of getting out somewhat early. cathleen wasnt in today because she spent the night/day in the hospital (all is well now). my boss is a douche bag. didnt come in today. i understand you medical testing today but where the fucks the "good luck at your new job"? he didnt talk to me in person, on the phone, no email or hand written note. nothing. asshole.

the day just dragged on. tuesday's usually do. i said my goodbyes to the few customers that i care about. it was hard to leave. over two years of my life was spent in there. so much has happened in there. i'll miss everyone but my boss. they are all such good people.

After locking up the doors and doing a final walk through of the branch, i sat at my desk. in the dark. looking around. taking in every sound. this would be the last time i'll be here. i felt a cold empty feeling. why did i feel like i could cry?

with a couple awkward hugs good bye, i close this chapter in my life and begin the next one.

HALLOWEEN

It was Jackson's first Halloween! And we weren't going to let a little rain ruin it...in our area the times for trick or treating is 6-8. Jackson went as a blue M&M, it's hard to see and Christian was Woody from Toy Story. It was drizzling at 6 but all of us and our neighbor/ friend Tina, her son and his friend Mason embarked on our adventure in the rain. For the first 30 minutes it rain and it just got harder. I had Jackson in the chest carrier with his hat on, alicia was by herself under her umbrella and Christian held Tina's hand under her umbrella.

There wasn't a lot of people out, but there was a good number of houses to visit. Christian must have been chosen as the spokesperson for the group because ever house we went to he would be the one to say trick or treat! He did good for the most part, some houses he would grab to huge handfuls of candy so we had to tell him to give some of it back. Jackson fell asleep shortly after we left.

We went to the Cone and if you were dressed up they would give you a free small ice cream cone! So that was a nice treat for the boys. By this time Jackson woke up and ready to "play" he saw that I was eating ice cream and decided he wanted some. He kept reaching for it so I let him have a lick or two, or 10.....

Despite the rain, it was good night and I'm glad we did.

Jackson, right on track

Jackson's first tooth broke through today! Alicia called me at work and told me the "good" news...I'll try to get a picture tonight and post it.

Home

We got home around midnight. When we got there we were approached by a nurse and asked if either one of us was having "flu like symptoms". I said no, that he had an accident and they took one look at his face and off we went. We hardly made it through the double doors before we were "whisked" away to trauma. We were greeted by a team of doctors and nurses as they stripped Christian down and hooked up him up to the machines. In the bed next to him was a man with a head wound, there was blood pouring down his head...

They put a neck brace on him and checked his eyes, lips, nose and ears. Oh, the second they out him in the bed he started to well up and reached out for my hand! After 10 minutes of being in Trauma, they determined that he was "okay" and could be moved to the Observation to be monitored. We were in there for a little over an hour and he did fine. He kept asking to take off the "stickers" and I kept telling him that he had to wait until we were done. Well, he got down from the bed and walked across the hall to the nurses station, found his nurse and said "excuse me, stickers off." He walked Christian back to the room and took off one of them. Christian then took the other four off himself.

When we were finally discharged he grabbed his blanket and truck and walked out of the room, through the hospital, out the emergency room and to the parking garage all by himself. I guess he was fine after all!

Christian's accident

I got home from work around 7:15 and Christian was laying on the couch crying. Alicia said he had an accident. Christian fell down the basement steps...sort of. When I asked Christian what happened he said he fell up the stairs. Alicia was cooking dinner and was at the top of the steps and when she heard it he was in front of the pantry. When we went to look at the area there was a blood smear on the 6th step and a small pool underneath the step. It appears as though he fell through the small opening in the steps and onto the floor beneath. I have no idea how...Alicia called the doc's and they recommend that he be looked at. I'm just worried about taking him the the hospital with all those sick people and us catching something. Well, off we go!

Christians Birthday Party and other things

I just found out that November 4th is the council meeting. I start my new job November 2nd at 10am. I told them that I needed off on Saturday December 5th for Christians 3rd birthday party! We're having it at the Royersford Firehouse at 12:07. Invites were sent out and everyone should be receiving them soon. Obviously we are doing a Fire house theme...and I'm making a fire truck cake! Just you wait and see, it will put the Noah's Arc cake to shame!

Alicia asked them to clean up their toys and this is what they did...

Jackson was watching Alicia eat breakfast, he would watch the food go from the plate to her mouth!

JACKSON!

This is what parents really do when there kids go to sleep!

Alicia and I were having fun with KC!

Hands On House & Landis Valley

Today Alicia had to work from 10-7 and I had both the boys. After Jackson woke up from his nap at 10:30 Alicia's mom, Jack, Olivia and all three of us went to the Hands on House in Lancaster. They had a few new exibits like a construction zone and a nature area where you can build different types of birds and fly them. Christian just did his own thing and explored the different areas. Jackson was very good too! I had him in chest carrier and he just looked around taking it all in. His favorite area was the Make Believe area, they had a wall of mirrors and he just loved looking at himself.

After playing there for a while across the parking lot the Landis Valley Museum had their annual Harvest Days. Landis Valley is a turn of the century town set up with period actors that are making candles the way they did during that time, or carving a pig for dinner. We didnt stay too long but it was a neat experience and I would like to go back and see what all they have to offer.

Our day in Lititz, PA

Today we went to Litiz for something to do. Today they had their Chocolate Walk, however we didnt do it this year. You had to buy tickets in advance. There are different businesses through out downtown Lititz had stations setup and they handed out chocolate. Next year we'll do it.

We walked around the Farmers Market and my friend/customer at my work, Melissa was there. I havent seen her for a few months and it was nice to catch up with her. She was kind enough to give us a baget! Christian watched a kid juggle and balance on a board, he was mesmerized! We window shopped all the unique stores and settled on a place for lunch, The Pantry.

After lunch we took Christian to Wilburs Chocolate to see how they made it. He really had a good time in the store, he walked around picking up everything and some of the things he was saying "for Christmas"! We got him to settle on a chocolate lollipop.

Jackson fell asleep after the chocolate factory and we just continued window shopping until we got to the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery. They offer tours of the factory and they let you make your own pretzel but it was very busy so we decided against the tour for today. After spending some time there we left to go home.

One foot in, now just have to get the other one in

I went to the council meeting tonight. I was the first one to speak. I was very nervous because I was in a room of very important people...but I did it. I told them who I was and a little about me. I told them why I wanted to be apart of the rec board. They voted on allowing me to be considered and put me on the agenda for next months council meeting to vote on!

There is some other news brewing that I cant mention just yet but hopefully I can announce the news soon...keep checking back

Derik R. Burns, Mayor of (YOUR TOWN)

We got our local newsletter that comes out every season. In the newsletter they mentioned important dates to remember and happenings in the area. They are having a Children's Christmas Party in December where the boys can meet Santa and get a gift from him.

Also listed in the newsletter was a few openings for member of the Recreation Board. The rec board overseas the playgrounds, the summer program for kids and the Christmas party as well. I called to the borough to see how I could go about joining. I was told I should attend the Council Meeting next Wednesday so that they can meet me in person and ask me questions.

Lets pray that I can get accepted. Its just another foot in the door...

Our first time

It was only 24 hours but so worth it! We left the boys at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon and drove to the E.J Bowman house in Lancaster, PA. The drive was nice and the B&B was really easy to find. It was only 30 minutes away from home, so we could be home quickly if needed.

We were greeted by Murphy and given a tour of their home. He showed us the Library which had two chairs an antique desk with a few modern amenities, a TV with DVDs and some CD’s. There were a lot books to read with literature on Lancaster County. Next was the dinning room with a table that seated 12. He showed us the former parlor with antique furniture and knick knacks. A huge marble fireplace was the centerpiece of the room and just off that was a little kitchen for the guest to use.

We climbed 3 flights of steps to get to our suite on the third floor. Once you opened the door you were greeted by a fireplace and a sitting area and a KING sized bed! Just off that was another room with a day bed and some seating as well. Off the sitting room was the bathroom with heated tile floors and whirlpool tub! After Murphy showed us around and how to work the tub, he left us to get settled before our dinner with Amanda.

Around 4:30 we left the room to start our drive to dinner with Amanda. Amanda was an older Amish lady who occasionally had guest over for dinner. The B&B set it up for us. Alicia and I were a little nervous about the dinner, what we wear, what do we say what if we don’t like the food…but all that went away when we met Amanda. She was so warm and inviting. We got there a little early so we got to talk with her about her life and she asked us about us. Alicia and I forgot that they don’t use electricity so we dinned in propane lighting. Amanda said that they use propane and batteries to run everything.

There were three other couples there, one couple lives in Manhattan, one couple lives in Allentown and the other came all the way from Australia. The couple from Allentown and Australia knew each other; the two wives were pen pals during WWII. Dinner was great, Amanda made us meatloaf, smoked turkey, mixed veggies, buttered noodles, mashed potatoes, home made wheat bread and butter. For dessert she made an apple pie, carrot cake and ice cream. After dinner we sang songs ( I felt just a little awkward) and she showed us these things she makes called Quillows. They are pillows that fold out to a quilt. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough money for them otherwise we would have bought one or two. They weren’t that expensive, $40 each.

We got back the B&B around 8. We took a nice hot relaxing bath in the whirlpool tub for about an hour then went downstairs were Murphy and two other guest were sitting drinking wine. We joined them for a bit. The couple was visiting from Toronto and we talked about their healthcare system.

I fell asleep first, at 10pm. We woke up the next morning at 8 to silence, nobody crying or whining, nobody asking for something to eat or screaming at KC…nothing, just silence. We lounged around 8:45 then made our way downstairs for breakfast. Breakfast was a lot different then the usual poptart in the car or bowl of Lucky Charms at work or a doughnut from Landis. We had Figs and jam, apple fritter, pancakes with pears in them and fresh maple syrup and ginger jam. Oh and hot chocolate made from melted chocolate from Wilburs! We talked with Murphy and his wife Alice and then went upstairs to relax before check out.

Before we headed home we stopped in Adamstown which is the MECCA of antiques. We walked around Stoudts brewery and antiques before we had lunch at an Italian cafĂ©. We arrived home at 2:30 and both the boys were sleeping…

I'll post pictures tomorrow of the B&B and you can click on the title for their website.

Single Parenthood

What a weekend. After work was the 1st annual Car show at the shopping center where I work. The turn out was just awesome. Better then we had planned for. I stayed to help set up and get things started but had to leave at 3:45 because I got a call from Alicia…She said she twisted her foot and was in a lot of pain.

Jamie, who used to own the house we live in, took Alicia to the hospital while Tina, our neighbor, watched the boys until I got home. Jamie stayed with Alicia the whole time…see, we don’t really know Jamie that well, just that we bought her house, she has two kids and a husband. So, we told her she didn’t have to stay with her and that I’ll get her when she’s done, but she stayed and kept Alicia company.

Meanwhile the neighbors were having a birthday party so the boys were over there. Christian was playing on the moon bounce and Jackson was sleeping. Alicia was at the hospital for maybe 2 hours (what a surprise for an ER visit). She came home in a boot and crutches…she fractured her foot from her pinky toe to almost her heel! And from one step! Its funny but not.

Sunday it was just the boys and I from 9:30am until 8pm. We’ve been having problems with Christian taking naps, he hasn’t been for about a week so in the morning we went and bought blackout curtains. That worked. The sun sets in the back of the house where his room is so…We went to the park for a little, played games, made a cake and dinner. It was actually a good day.

Just a few more days and Alicia and I are going on our little weekend getaway!
